The Egyptian Hockey League (EHL) is the official organized ice hockey league in Egypt, founded in 2021 and headquartered in Cairo. It runs competitive seasons, player development programmes, and community outreach to grow the sport across the country.

EHL games are played 3-on-3 — three skaters plus a goalie per side — for the full game, with two 8-minute running-clock halves. Penalties result in penalty shots rather than power plays, and tied games go to a shootout.

The Cairo Nomads are the founding club of the Egyptian Hockey League and Egypt’s first organized ice hockey team. In 2025 they placed second at the Union Classic Tournament in the UAE, the league’s first international result.

The EHL is actively pursuing International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) recognition and has undertaken compliance and governance work toward that goal. Officiating and coach certification tracks are aligned with IIHF expectations.

The EHL offers 4 sponsor packages, priced in US dollars per year: title partner ($10,000 / year), premier partner ($5,000 / year), partner ($2,500 / year) and supporter ($1,000 / year). Each puts the sponsor’s logo on the Cairo Nomads practice jersey, in collaboration with HyperCo Sports, and the title partner package adds the game jersey. The website sponsor ($500 / year) and the rink boards ($1,500 per board / year) are sold on their own, and there is one website sponsor. The league also sells naming rights to the Cup ($5,000 / year) and the Golden Helmet ($2,500 / year), and programme sponsorships for the beginner hour ($4,000 / year) and the kids and schools programme ($5,000 / year), each to one sponsor. The EHL welcomes complete beginners of any age — people who have never skated as well as skaters who have never played hockey — and coaches start each one from whatever level they are at. The league provides the gear, so new participants do not need their own to start. No. There is no age cutoff. The EHL accepts beginner skaters and beginner hockey players of all ages, whether that is a child stepping onto the ice for the first time or an adult starting from zero.
