What is the ENHL?
The Egyptian National Hockey League (ENHL) is the official organized ice hockey league in Egypt, founded in 2021 and headquartered in Cairo. It runs competitive seasons, player development programmes, and community outreach to grow the sport across the country.
What format do ENHL games use?
ENHL games are played 3-on-3 — three skaters plus a goalie per side — for the full game, with two 8-minute running-clock halves. Penalties result in penalty shots rather than power plays, and tied games go to a shootout.
Who is the founding club of the ENHL?
The Cairo Nomads are the founding club of the Egyptian National Hockey League and Egypt’s first organized ice hockey team. In 2025 they placed second at the Union Classic Tournament in the UAE, the league’s first international result.
Is Egypt a member of the IIHF?
The ENHL is actively pursuing International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) recognition and has undertaken compliance and governance work toward that goal. Officiating and coach certification tracks are aligned with IIHF expectations.
How can someone join the ENHL?
Players, coaches, officials, and sponsors can apply through the join page at https://www.egyptianhockeyleague.com/join. The league offers entry pathways for every role, including learn-to-skate programmes for first-time participants and an equipment lending library that removes the cost barrier to starting.
Do you need experience to play ice hockey in Egypt?
No. The ENHL runs learn-to-skate camps, junior programmes, and school outreach for people who have never played before, and lends equipment so new participants do not have to buy gear to start.
