Which Middle Eastern countries play ice hockey?

As of November 2026, active ice hockey federations, leagues or clubs are confirmed in United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon, Egypt, Iran and Algeria. The Emirates have the most clubs, and Oman’s teams won three titles at the 2026 Union Classic.

Which countries in the region are IIHF members?

Full members of the International Ice Hockey Federation: United Arab Emirates (2001), Kuwait (2009) and Iran (2019). Associate members: Oman (2014), Qatar (2012), Bahrain (2024), Lebanon (2019) and Algeria (2019). Morocco (2010) and Tunisia (2021) are also associate members. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Iraq are not members.

What is the Union Classic?

The Union Classic is the region’s main club tournament, held every year in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, and organised by the Abu Dhabi Winter Games Club. The 2025 edition drew 32 teams from seven countries. In October 2026 Oman’s sides won the women’s, open and Arab titles, Majan beating Egypt’s Cairo Nomads in a shootout in the Arab final.

Is there ice hockey in Egypt?

Yes. The Egyptian Hockey League (EHL) is Egypt’s only organised ice hockey league, based in Cairo, and its founding club, the Cairo Nomads, plays the region’s tournaments.
